Sleep is a natural “recharge” time for body and mind, and if it’s not adequate there are negative physical and mental effects. Did you know poor sleep can lead to hyperactivity issues in children as early five-years-old? In teenagers, anxiety and depression are linked to poor sleeping habits 27% and 69% of the time. Kids who don’t sleep well don’t grow as well as their peersKids who get good sleep tend to get sick less frequently. Plenty of sleep usually translates to better grades, improved emotional health, and a healthier home life. All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads.
Yet it is estimated that roughly 2-3% of American children are without beds (according to news collected by SHP). Often these children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This affects not only their happiness but their overall health and development.
That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace® comes in, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. SHP operates in all fifty of the United States through organizing local chapters in various cities.
Friends, you know how much I love my city! When I met Kevin Loveday, SHP Pensacola Chapter President I had to hear more and wanted to share his story. His work alongside the countless local volunteers matters more than you know. In just its first year, the Pensacola chapter of SHP has already delivered 100 beds.
When Hurricane Sally terrorized the Gulf Coast in September SHP were the heroes we prayed would rise up, still providing beds to our local kiddos.
As Kevin says, “Our goal is every kid has a bed of their own and no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
You are going to love hearing Kevin’s humble heart and amazing story taking small brave steps with God that had lead to full life change for not only himself, but many others who now have the opportunity to sleep peacefully.
SHP is a volunteer organization that builds beds for kids who are sleeping on the floor and there are multiple ways to get involved, click here now to find out how.
