As a child Harper Lee often sat in the balcony of the Monroeville, Alabama courthouse watching her father practice law. Sounds similar to our beloved fictional character Scout Finch, right? As I walked about the room, watching the sun melt through the glass windows and soak into the rich hues of wooden furniture I felt pulled to a memory that I had never truly lived, but only read about. I am not romanticizing the story subject of To Kill a Mockingbird, racism and injustice are serious actions that create devastating experiences, never to be looked upon with rose colored glasses. My nostalgia is tied to Lee’s life and her willingness to write about what society ignores. Also, I will always long to learn more about the literary friends I loved and still do— Jean Louise ‘Scout’, Jem, Atticus, Calpurnia, and of course, Boo Radley.

Though Black History Month has concluded I am still eager and excited to continue celebrating for the rest of the 2021 year. 🎉 Sending a huge thank you to every individual who was intentional in taking a moment to honor African Americans and their central role in U.S. History. Education is one of my love languages and I am so thankful for February, a time to celebrate Black Americans, and an invitational reminder for me to continue learning everyday!!
This weekend I experienced a DREAM come true ✨I have soooo many words to share about it...more from this adventure coming soon 📖
